IBM Combines Analytics, Business Intelligence in Cognos 10
IBM adds collaboration, mobile support and easy-to-use analytics to its flagship BI software.
At its new Business Analytics Forum in Las Vegas this week, IBM (NYSE: IBM) continued its aggressive push into business intelligence and analytics with a number of new product releases, including the latest release of its flagship BI software, Cognos 10.
Also at the new conference for Cognos and SPSS users, Big Blue unveiled DB2 10 database software with a 40 percent performance boost, IBM InfoSphere Server 8.5 data integration and quality software, and a technology preview of Hadoop-based big data analytics software.
Cognos 10 boasts a number of new features, including collaboration and analytics capabilities and iPad, iPhone and BlackBerry support.
IBM bills Cognos 10 as "the most significant analytics offering since the acquisition of Cognos" three years ago. The addition of Lotus Connections software adds social collaboration and the ability to communicate as issues arise.
IBM also claims "intuitive navigation capabilities and simplified user experience" that "removes the frustration of having to interrupt user train of thought resulting from the need to switch between views to get the right information."
The software offers an integrated view of historical information with real-time updates. Users can choose a range of views from simple real-time information to advanced predictive analytics.
IBM said Cognos 10 "takes analytics out of the traditional format of reports and charts to a more interactive design and broader analysis and insight, making it easier by providing built-in images and videos to guide business users. They can now gain instant insight with analytics in an easy to use format anytime, anywhere on their mobile devices."
