SAP’s Sybase unit has announced the release of version 15.3 of the Sybase IQ columnar database, powered by Sybase IQ PlexQ, a massively parallel processing (MPP) technology.

The new technology provides a data warehouse transformation by breaking down user and information silos to drive analytics adoption throughout the entire organization, said Sybase.

Sybase said IQ 15.3 “redefines enterprise-wide business analytics with a shared-everything MPP architecture that scales to support real-time access to thousands of users, multiple mixed workloads and massive datasets.”

Version 15.3 expands Sybase IQ’s capacity to integrate business analytics into applications and business workflows by delivering APIs for both popular and emerging programming languages as well as a new Web Services interface that simplifies integration for software developers. With Sybase IQ PlexQ, IT departments can implement virtual data marts to optimize the experience for different applications and user communities.

“Enterprise IT departments are demanding new ways to enhance their enterprise data warehouse systems to increase intelligence, productivity and analytics capability across the enterprise,” said Brian Vink, Sybase vice president for product management. “Sybase IQ, with its PlexQ technology, brings customers a powerful yet simplified approach that overcomes traditional data warehouse limitations. IT departments can now support users across the enterprise with many concurrent workloads and large datasets on a single highly scalable elastic grid, significantly increasing analytics intelligence across the enterprise while reducing IT administration burden.”

Sybase IQ 15.3 allows enterprises to run complex analytical models and algorithms within the database, eliminating the need for data mining algorithms inside business logic and accelerating overall performance of complex queries. Sybase IQ also supports the analysis of unstructured data often used in business workflows, such as proprietary document formats, emails and web content, and it now enables fast analysis of unstructured multi-media data within the database.

Additional features in Sybase IQ 15.3 includes a built-in Web Services API and Ruby-on-Rails language driver to simplify integration with workflow processes and web-based applications, and options to group physical servers in a PlexQ grid into virtual clusters to optimize analytic workloads, user needs and applications.
