George Mathew, COO and president of Alteryx, earlier this year predicted that one of the top business intelligence trends for 2013 would be the emergence of the data analyst, a role he defined as “specialists who can bridge the gap between IT and business by evolving their core thinking and approach to analytics decision-making.”

So it’s no surprise that the latest update of Alteryx’s  analytics software, Alteryx Strategic Analytics 8.5, includes several features designed to appeal to business analysts and other line-of-business users.

“With Alteryx Strategic Analytics 8.5, we are putting Big Data and customer analytics where they have the most value — into the hands of the business analyst and the decision maker,” said Mathew. “We are providing a purpose-built product that enables data artisans to easily create the Big Data customer analytics that their sales, marketing and operations business decision makers need.”

According to Alteryx, the software is the first analytic platform to programmatically deliver Tableau Data Extract files as a native output from an analytic process. This leverages the new Tableau Data Extract API – a new capability of the upcoming Tableau 8.0 release

The Alteryx release, building on a partnership between Alteryx and Teradata, enables greater customer value from Teradata Unified Data Architecture investments with support for Teradata Aster analytical capabilities and a new high-speed Teradata data warehouse connector which provides read/write capabilities.  Alteryx will also provide a new Oracle database bulk loader enabling Oracle customers to benefit from large- scale data blending.

Among the other new features:

  • Tools that allow users to inject social media into analytic apps, with preview capabilities for Twitter, Yelp and Foursquare that can be added into any analytic workflow. Also, thanks to the company’s  partnership with social media data provider Gnip, users can integrate the Gnip enterprise social media streams into analytic applications.
  • A new user-friendly interface that makes it easy to integrate location intelligence into analytic applications with new interactive mapping capabilities.
  •  Packaged predictive tools such as market basket analysis and A/B testing that enable deeper understanding of customer behavior.

Alteryx Strategic Analytics 8.5 will be available in April 2013.

Alteryx has more than 250 customers and 200,000-plus users worldwide, including at companies like Experian Marketing Services and McDonald’s.
