Attunity, a provider of data management software, is beefing up its Big Data offerings by acquiring the data warehouse automation technology of Dutch company BIReady.  According to Attunity, the technology automatically designs, generates and populates enterprise data warehouses and data marts, adding data modeling and structuring capabilities so data is ready for Big Data analytics and business intelligence (BI) projects.

Attunity paid approximately $1 million in cash and Attunity shares for the BIReady technology, with an additional earnings potential of up to $375,000 in cash.

“BIReady technology accomplishes the many goals of ETL by automating much of the data warehousing design process and the generation of SQL code – something the classic ETL model has never mastered,” said Bill Inmon, owner of Inmon Consulting Services and Forest Rim Technology, a BIReady partner, in a statement.

Attunity already provides solutions that facilitate the movement of Big Data to the cloud, such as its Cloudbeam software-as-a-service platform that was reviewed in Enterprise Apps Today earlier this year. Reviewer Matt Sarrel called it “an easy-to-use and inexpensive way to move, back up and/or synchronize any amount of data on a pay-per-use and subscription basis.  Cloudbeam is also an easy way to build a disaster recovery solution for corporate data.”

Adam Haines, director of systems engineering at Federated Sample, in a Baseline article described how his company used Cloudbeam to move data from its SQL Server systems to a cloud-based data warehouse.

With the BIReady acquisition Attunity customers will gain the ability to create and manage data warehouse logics, said Attunity Chairman and CEO Shimon Alon, in a statement. “The addition of data warehouse automation technology to our information availability portfolio helps to complete and strengthen our offering while answering a critical need for prospects.”

Attunity’s current products encompass data replication, data flow management, test data management, change data capture, data connectivity, enterprise file replication, managed-file-transfer and cloud data delivery. The addition of BIRready technology will give the company an end-to-end data warehousing solution that automates manually-intensive tasks needed to prepare data for BI and Big Data analytics.

According to Alon, Attunity expects the newly acquired technology to expand its opportunities with OEMs and resellers, and to help it win business from companies looking for alternatives to traditional ETL technology.
