The partnerships keep coming for Hortonworks, a provider of Hadoop services and support as well as Hadoop-compatible software.

Just last week Teradata announced it was partnering with Hortonworks to help companies create Big Data analytic solutions that leverage Hadoop. Writing on The Data Blog, Tasso Argyros, co-president of Teradata Aster, explained the partnership includes a set of reference architectures that combine Teradata and Hadoop products to accelerate the implementation of Big Data projects, and a commitment for joint R&D to make it easier for customers of both companies to use their products together.

Hortonworks earlier this week said it was working on a connector to link Excel with Hadoop, a move that will bring Hadoop-powered business intelligence functionality to Excel via Microsoft’s PowerPivot. Previously the two companies had worked together to enable Hadoop to run on Windows Server.

MarkLogic Corporation joined the ranks of Hortonworks partners today, announcing it will certify its connector for Hadoop against the Hortonworks Data Platform. As with Teradata, the two companies will also develop reference architectures for MarkLogic-Hadoop solutions and further align their product roadmaps.

MarkLogic CTO Ron Avnur said last year’s introduction of a connector that made it easier for customers to leverage Hadoop in MarkLogic-powered applications was “the first step of a much larger vision.” By partnering with Hortonworks, it hopes to offer companies “a one-stop-shop for real-time Big Data Applications and batch processing.”

Noting that Hortonworks is “doing a good job of building partnerships with leading data management vendors to expand the Apache Hadoop ecosystems,” Matt Aslett, 451 Research’s research manager, data management and analytics, said the MarkLogic parternship is “compelling” because it combines Hortonworks’ Hadoop expertise with MarkLogic’s focus on operational applications that leverage un- and semi-structured data.
