SAP HANA isn’t the only in-memory game in town. Oracle is also leveraging in-memory technology and new software to help organizations attain the lofty goal of operating enterprise business processes in real-time.

Hot on the heels of SAP’s HANA Enterprise Cloud announcement, Oracle took the wraps off two new JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Applications — In-Memory Project Portfolio Management and Sales Advisor — that quickly surface business insights and speed up the business decision making process. The apps run on Oracle Engineered Systems-based infrastructures, which leverage vast stores of DRAM along with flash storage and an InfiniBand network fabric, to make short work of massive volumes of transactional data and improve application performance.

In today’s competitive business climate, life is better in the fast lane asserts Lyle Ekdahl, group vice president and general manager of Oracle JD Edwards. “With Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne In-Memory Applications, customers can take advantage of our new applications based on high performance levels to fundamentally change the dynamics of their business,” he stated in company remarks.

“The speed and agility delivered enhances decision making, creates new revenue opportunities and helps further lower total cost of ownership,” he added.

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne In-Memory Project Portfolio Management provides project managers visibility into the cost and profitability of their project portfolios. Features include portfolio-wide reporting, single-interface project financials and the ability to summarize portfolios by region, project type, account executive and several other variables.

The software performs roughly 24 times faster than JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Project Costing Job Status Inquiry, boasts the company. Manual project management and analysis tasks take significantly less time and users can more readily optimize for project profitability, says Oracle.

Also new is JD Edwards EnterpriseOne In-Memory Sales Advisor, which arrives with several new profit- and efficiency-boosting capabilities.

Backed by the company’s beefy in-memory hardware, the software “enhances the customer service representative and your customer experience, drives revenue upsell opportunities, and provides real-time visibility to line and order level historical and current profitability,” informs Oracle.

Oracle hints that with In-Memory Sales Advisor, missed sales opportunities may be a thing of the past.

For example, a customer service interaction can turn into an opening for real-time up-sell recommendations. Sales reps can use the software to alert them if higher purchase quantities trigger a freebie, incentivizing customers. Other use cases include up-selling at order entry and evaluating margins during order capture.
