Henderson adds Web data measurement firm to recent appointments.

William J. Henderson, the recently retired Postmaster General and chief executive officer of the United States Postal Service (USPS), has joined the comScore Networks, Inc., board of directors. The Reston, Va.-based comScore provides a confidentially captured, 360-degree view of the surfing behavior of more than 1.5 million opt-in Internet users, combined with detailed information about their online and offline purchases.

Henderson, a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Postal Service, was the 71st postmaster general of the United States and the fifth career employee to lead the world's largest postal system. He served in that position from May 1998 until his retirement in May 2001.

From 1994 until his appointment as Postmaster General and CEO, Henderson served as chief operating officer of the USPS with responsibility for nationwide postal operations, the daily processing, transportation, and delivery of more than 650 million pieces of mail to over 130 million addresses.

Henderson also led the organization to record delivery service performance for local first-class mail as independently measured by PricewaterhouseCoopers. The organization's increased use of automation contributed significantly to five consecutive operating surpluses, while it also explored further initiatives to improve customer service and delivery.

As Postmaster General, Henderson's leadership helped continue this performance momentum. In 2000, the Postal Service continued to set customer service milestones and achieved the highest total-factor productivity increase, 2.5 percent, in almost a decade. In January 1999, national agreements were signed with two of the largest postal unions for the first time in 12 years. Henderson focused the organization on maintaining affordability and achieving industry growth.

Henderson also recently joined the boards of both Acxiom Corp. and Quad/Graphics, Inc.
