More than 6,000 experts are standing by to answer HP business customer's questions in various categories, such as IT design, integration and deployment.

Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HWP) launched a new service Tuesday that gives its business customers access to its consulting expertise.

The initiative, called HP Online Consulting is a mixture of Web-based delivery tools, remote and traditional consulting.

The Palo Alto, Calif.-based computer and printer maker is certainly taking it seriously, employing some 6,000 HP consultants and collective IT design, integration and deployment knowledge experts.

"The market's growing importance coupled with HP's vision to help customers transform their businesses and become more self-sufficient is the driving force behind HP Online Consulting," says HP Online Consulting general manager John Bologna.

The first offerings available through new consulting site are security services including eSecurity Scan, eSecurity Alert and HP Guru.

HP says the need for consulting is fast becoming a necessity. According to International Data Corporation, the online consulting market is expected to grow and reach $6.4 billion in 2004.

The company says it will expand the site to incorporate architecture, design and supply chain management.

HP says it is also working with its channel partners to extend these services to the small- and medium-sized businesses.
