Cloudera Gives Hadoop a Spark

By Sean Michael Kerner     Feedback

[PODCAST] Cloudera execs explain what's new in their latest enterprise Hadoop platform and why Spark is displacing MapReduce for Big Data.

The open source Hadoop platform has emerged in recent years as the defacto standard tool for Big Data. Among the biggest backers of Hadoop is Cloudera, which built a freely available distribution of Hadoop (CDH) as well as an enterprise release.

Cloudera just introduced Enterprise 5.7, a release that provides users with new Spark capabilities that help accelerate Big Data analysis. Spark in many respects is replacing the MapReduce technology inside of the Hadoop ecosystem. However, its displacement should not be too disruptive for most Hadoop users, according to Cloudera.

In a podcast interview, Alex Gutow, Product Marketing, Core Products, and Justin Erickson, director of Product Management, Core Products, detail some of the new features in Cloudera Enterprise 5.7 and explain why migrating to Spark need not be painful for Hadoop users.
