Actuate, Pervasive Team for Big Data Visualizations
Actuate continues its quest to become the de facto business intelligence visualization platform for Hadoop by partnering with Pervasive Software.
Actuate is not done forging alliances as it looks to align its open source BIRT business intelligence platform with the booming Hadoop-based Big Data ecosystem. The company announced today that it is teaming with Pervasive Software to bring ActuateOne's BIRT-based visualization and reporting capabilities to Pervasive's RushAnalyzer for predictive analytics.
ActuateOne is Actuate's on-premise and cloud visualization portfolio that delivers business intelligence tools and reporting features via customizable dashboards. The software is based on the open source BIRT platform. BIRT supports Apache Hadoop, an open source project which has quickly risen to prominence as a Big Data processing platform and is supported by technology heavyweights like IBM, Oracle and SAS.
Pervasive RushAnalyzer utilizes a drag-and-drop interface and a pre-built data mining and analytic operators library for predictive analytics on Hadoop clusters. Pervasive also specializes in Big Data analytics that can, for instance, enable real-time troubleshooting of extensive telecommunications networks to discover and prevent faults in minutes rather than hours.
Democratizing Big Data Analytics
Actuate and Pervasive Software claim their partnership will "democratize predictive analytics on Hadoop," allowing a wider variety of technical and business users to unlock business insights from Hadoop environments.
In a statement, Mike Hoskins, CTO of Pervasive said, "Through the combined capabilities of RushAnalyzer and ActuateOne, a range of business and technical users -- not just the most skilled data scientists -- can identify key trends and predict future developments to increase their competitive advantage."
Since last year's release of BIRT 3.7, which added support for Hadoop and MapReduce, Actuate has been busy trying to make its business intelligence platform synonymous with Hadoop and its explosive growth.
With the ability to natively access Hadoop using Hive Query Language (HQL), BIRT can integrate with Hadoop data and other data sources like SQL databases, XML or document stores to build data visualizations. Last month, Actuate announced that it was leveraging those capabilities to ease the way for BIRT developers to integrate with Cloudera's Apache Hadoop-based products.
Today Actuate is signaling that Big Data analytics will inevitably follow a more user-friendly trajectory. "By teaming with Pervasive, we are changing the game to expand the power of big data for business users so that they can operationalize and deliver insights to everyday users," said Nobby Akiha, Actuate’s senior vice president of Marketing.
