It has been a busy few weeks for HashiCorp, with the company raising new money and announcing new projects.

On Nov. 1, the company announced a massive $100 million Series D round of funding lead by IVP, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners. Total funding to date for HashiCorp now stands at $174 million.

“Since our inception, we’ve been deeply committed to enabling multi-cloud,” Dave McJannet, CEO of HashiCorp, wrote in a statement. “Because practitioners choose technologies in the cloud era, we’ve taken an open source-first approach and partnered with the cloud providers to enable a common workflow for cloud adoption.”

New Products

At the core of HashiCorp’s product portfolio are a number of open source projects which are then further enhanced for commercial enterprise use. The company’s commercial product portfolio has four key pillars, Consul for networking, Nomad for Development, Vault for security and Terraform for operations.

At the company’s HashiConf event on Oct. 23, multiple updates to the product portfolio were announced, including the new Nomad 0.9 update.

“The new features that we’re adding to HashiCorp Nomad will simplify ecosystem integrations and expand use cases, particularly in GPU-based machine learning and batch processing environments,” Armon Dadgar, founder and CTO of HashiCorp, stated. “Some of the largest companies in the world rely on Nomad across their diverse multi-cloud and on-premises environments.”

Consul is being updated to version 1.4, which includes the Consul Connect service mesh. Consul now also integrates with the Kubernetes container orchestration platform, enabling organization to use Consul alongside Kubernetes across different cloud deployments.

“Consul is critical for ensuring you know the location and status of services in dynamic environments and can securely connect to them, while drastically reducing costs at the same time,” “Mitchell Hashimoto, founder and CTO of HashiCorp, stated.

Terraform 0.12 was also announced, with an improved configuration language (HCL), that is used to define the provisioning configuration.

The other big update is for the Vault secrets management technology which is reaching the 1.0 marker.

“HashiCorp Vault is the fourth HashiCorp product to reach our very rigorous 1.0 milestone, following HashiCorp Packer, Consul, and Vagrant,” said Mitchell Hashimoto, founder and CTO of HashiCorp. “Since the first release of Vault in 2015, it has grown from a central place to keep secrets to a comprehensive secrets management and data protection platform for some of the largest organizations in the world.”
