The biggest technology companies, including HP, Google and Amazon, offer different ways of dealing with Big Data. This quick primer will help bring you up to speed.
From in-memory computing to columnar databases, a slew of technologies promise to help companies handle larger data sets -– so-called Big Data -- and derive insights from it. In recent weeks Enterprise Apps Today looked at eight business-changing ways some companies are using Big Data.
EAT also published two Big Data Buyer's Guides – one focusing on Oracle's Exalytics and SAP's HANA and another discussing the Big Data approaches used by IBM, SAS, Pentaho, Birst and Terracotta. These aren't the only vendors leveraging Big Data, of course. In a slideshow on sister site IT Business Edge, Loraine Lawson mentions some of the vendors not included in either guide.
For information on the Big Data services offered by such heavyweights as Google, Amazon and HP, see her slideshow Eight Big-Name Options for Big Data.
