Chordiant Software Tuesday said it has acquired OnDemand, Inc. for $12 million in cash.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based Chordiant, which makes customer relationship management (CRM) software, says the purchase is worth the cost considering that OnDemand comes with approximately $5,000,000 in net working capital and a modest revenue stream and expense base.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based OnDemand provides relationship management software that lets organizations and their branch and independent channels to increase sales and reduce costs by maximizing customer relationships. Ironically, the company only named a new CEO to its ranks back in December 2001.

Now, Chordiant says it plans to use OnDemand’s domain expertise and J2EE-based software environment to complement the current Chordiant 5 application suite and integrate with the J2EE-based Chordiant 5 Enterprise Platform.

Chordiant 5 includes marketing applications (Marketing Director Suite and Marketing Optimizer), selling and servicing applications (Advisor and Call Center Advisor) and the enterprise platform (Collaboration Server, Foundation Server, Interaction Server, Knowledge Server, Rules Server).

In addition to its Cupertino, Calif. headquarters, Chordiant maintains regional offices in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Manchester, New York City, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Johannesburg, London, Melbourne, Munich, Paris and Sydney.
