Big Data vendor MapR Technologies announced on Sept. 5 that it had raised a new equity round of funding, bringing in $56 million. Total funding to date for MapR now stands at approximately $250 million since the company was founded in 2009.

“We are helping to solve some of the most complex data challenges with the industry’s only Converged Data Platform that integrates analytics and operations with data as it happens,” Matt Mills, CEO of MapR Technologies, said in a statement. “Our performance in recent quarters and the additional equity from our existing investors are proof points that we are successfully executing on our strategy as we continue to be heads-down and focused.”

MapR has multiple products with its core offering being the Converged Data Platform which integrates Apache Hadoop, Drill and Spark to enable big data applications.

On Aug. 29, MapR announced its  newest product called Orbit Cloud Suite, providing cloud computing capabilities for the Converged Data Platform.

“With MapR Orbit Cloud Suite, data access across multiple clouds and cloud types as well as Edge Computing are simply treated as another seamless tier for analytics,” Tom Fisher, CTO, MapR Technologies, said in a statement. “The future is leveraging data, no matter where it is persisted, and its use, in real-time, for delivery through the next generations of applications.”

MapR has also recently launched its MapR-XD cloud-scale data store to manage files and containers.

“As applications become more intelligent and take advantage of more diverse data in real time, for both analytical and operational uses, there arises the need for new approaches to data processing,” Matt Aslett, research director, data platforms and analytics, 451 Research, said in a statement. “MapR-XD is designed to eliminate data silos and support new use cases as they emerge that require data processing from the edge, data center and to the cloud.”
