The Social Security Administration (SSA) has awarded PEC Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:PECS) a contract to assist SSA in the development of an agency-wide strategic focus and direction for future PKI implementations.

PEC will survey other large corporations and government agencies to conduct a “best practices” assessment of other Public Key Infrastructures. The Fairfax, Va.-based company will also help SSA to develop a customer service strategy to support PKI by defining and documenting customer service requirements.

The company will evaluate current PKI pilot programs within SSA for technical and policy interoperability with other agencies and industry partners. Finally, PEC will provide SSA with a set of recommendations regarding PKI architecture, hardware, software, and staffing requirements to consider when implementing future PKI solutions.

Public Key Infrastructure employs the latest in encryption technologies that allow for digital signatures and other secure transactions. It reduces paper-intensive processes, ensures confidentiality and security of information, minimizes unauthorized access, and prevents fraud.
