VMforce Boosts Cloud Offerings With Salesforce.com

According to reports on the Dow Jones Newswire, Salesforce.com and VMware are expected to announce a joint product that will boost their cloud computing strengths. The report suggests that for Salesforce, VMforce will strengthen the company’s force.com platform that is used for developing cloud applications and services.


“Marc Benioff, the chairman and chief executive of Salesforce, and Paul Maritz, president and CEO of VMware, are expected to announce VMforce, which will marry Salesforce’s software-as-a-service expertise with VMware’s focus on virtualization, the people familiar with the plans said. Targeted primarily at developers, VMforce will offer customers ‘infrastructure-as-a-service,’ or the server, storage and computer resources necessary to run an application. VMforce will also offer an improved platform for application development, the people said.”
