As Amazon’s big annual cloud customer event, re:Invent in Las Vegas, is set to get underway, lots of enterprise application vendors are eager to talk about how they use the cloud too.

One such vendor is Alfresco, which was originally best known as an enterprise content management (ECM) and business process management (BPM) vendor. Alfresco was acquired by private-equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners (THL) in February.

Alfresco is now making extensive use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning processes to help inform its next generation of BPM for improved customer experience. In a demonstration at re:Invent, Alfresco is showing how AI/ML can be uses to help expedite a sample bank loan application process, making it more consumer friendly.

The new solution approach makes use of multiple AWS tools and services including: AWS DeepLens and Amazon Alexa to enable the initial interaction. At the back end, Alfresco is using multiple AWS AI/ML services including SageMaker Amazon Rekognition, Amazon Comprehend, and Amazon Polly. The workflow enables voice interaction, language comprehension and facial recognition to enable the application process.

The advanced AI/ML tools work together to enable data flow into the Alfresco Digital Business Platform, which itself is running on AWS.

Going a step further, personally identifiable information is flagged via the Amazon Macie machine learning PII service to help protect sensitive user information.

“Our technology demonstration is an amazing convergence of how artificial intelligence, machine learning and process automation can dramatically improve customer experience across a variety of vertical markets, not just financial services,”Darren Yetzer, vice president of strategic partnerships at Alfresco said. “The most exciting news is that we have several partners that are building these type of real-world solutions today — so this is so much more than just a demonstration.”
