Jive Adds Mobile Apps in Bid for New Business

Jive, best known for its enterprise social networking platform, is introducing three new mobile collaboration apps that it hopes will help it attract new customers.

Given that inspiration to brainstorm an idea with colleagues can strike at any time and in any place, demand for mobile collaboration apps should be especially high.  

Social software provider Jive, best known for helping enterprises establish online communities for their employees, is rolling out three new mobile apps that it hopes will satisfy that demand.

The three apps, Jive Daily, Jive Chime and Jive People, aim to "provide intuitive, frictionless mobile experiences that help companies embrace employees’ various work styles and drive strategic alignment as a competitive differentiator," said Jive Software President Elisa Steele in a statement.

In an interview with Enterprise Apps Today, Tom Petrocelli, research director, Enterprise Social, Mobile and Cloud Applications, for Neuralytix, said mobility is an essential feature for enterprise collaboration apps. "If the purpose of collaboration is to help people work better together, and you lock certain people out because they are on the road a lot, it defeats the purpose," he said.

Jive Daily, an app that Jive promises will allow employees to "quickly check out the most relevant news from executives and colleagues, and instantly engage in two-way dialogue," is set for release Feb. 18, in versions for both iOS and Android. Among its features: newsfeeds that can be tailored to users' interests, project teams and business functions; the ability to like and follow colleagues; and metrics that allow companies to track participation.

According to Jive, several companies in different verticals already use Jive Daily as part of a limited beta. "We were instantly able to launch Jive Daily and see immediate results in sharing information and content across every level of the company," said  C-Suite Networks’ CEO Thomas White in a statement.

In the coming months, the company will release a messaging app called Jive Chime and Jive People, which it refers to as "a next-generation corporate directory."

Oregon Live reports that this is Portland-based Jive's first major product refresh in eight years. Jive also hopes its new apps will help it appeal to large enterprises, according to Oregon Live. According to Frost and Sullivan research published last March, Jive is one of four vendors that command 80 percent of the enterprise social software market (along with IBM, Microsoft and Tibco).

The apps can be purchased and used together or independently of each other. The apps can be used on desktops as well as mobile devices. In addition, Jive will also offer an administrative console for the apps. Jive has not yet announced pricing.
