Opera Solutions Brings Predictive Analytics to SAP HANA

SAP’s HANA ecosystem gets a little bigger today as Opera Solutions revealed that its Signal Hub tech and applications are coming to the in-memory analytics platform at the SAPPHIRE Now conference in Orlando, Fla.
Opera Solutions is a provider of data analytics solutions and services that extract predictive patterns from Big Data. In September, the company closed on an $84 million round of equity financing led by Silver Lake Sumeru. Currently, Opera generates $100 million in revenue by serving financial services firms, healthcare organizations, supply chain companies and government agencies, among other sectors.
The company’s secret sauce is a deep pool of talent, according to Laura Teller, chief marketing officer for Opera Solutions. More than a third of its 650-employee workforce is comprised of data specialists who devise ways to cull meaningful, actionable intelligence from a sea of data at scale. “Over 220 are data scientists that are focused on machine learning,” she said.
Their efforts to hone the predictive accuracy of Opera’s software is the basis of the company’s Signal Hub platform, which uses advanced algorithms to detect signals and patterns from Big Data flows from internal and/or external sources. Now, Opera is bringing Signal Hub to SAP HANA to enable real-time predictive analytics.
SAP’s in-memory hardware and Opera’s Big Data expertise are practically made for each other, said Arnab Gupta, CEO of Opera Solutions. “By allowing us to keep both time series history and complex event processing in memory, it significantly reduces speed-to-answer and simplifies our own processing environment. Our advanced predictive analytics move far closer to being real-time and on-demand.”
SAP HANA in-memory systems leverage large amounts of RAM to analyze data faster than is possible on traditional infrastructures based on comparatively slower disk-based storage systems. Since its debut, SAP has been steadily growing the HANA platform with a variety of apps. The company has also worked to integrate NetWeaver Business Warehouse and release new software like Customer Segmentation Accelerator.
Today signals that SAP is rolling out the welcome mat for third parties that have something to bring to the table. Vishal Sikka, SAP’s CTO and a member of its Executive Board, said in a company release, “Innovative companies like Opera Solutions are building unprecedented applications on SAP solutions.”
Sikka added that Opera’s technology falls in line with his company’s in-memory analytics value proposition. “This enables complex analytics to be applied on massive amounts of real-time data, including unstructured text information, as the foundation to help businesses uncover new market opportunities,” he said.
