Alteryx Enlists Cloud for Consumerization of Big Data

Alteryx, a maker of business analytics software, today revealed another part of its strategy to “humanize” business intelligence. The company announced Alteryx Strategic Analytics 8.0, with a cloud component called Analytics Gallery that the company claims “consumerizes Big Data analytics in the cloud.”
Alteryx’s Analytics Gallery is a cloud-based offering with over 30 free analytics applications that the company says can help kickstart an organization’s business intelligence efforts. As a parallel to the consumerization of IT phenomenon, Paul Ross, vice president of Product and Industry Marketing for Alteryx, says Analytics Gallery puts a more user-friendly face on Big Data analytics.
“Having spent the last four years working with social media apps to engage with customers and prospects for marketing purposes, it’s always been difficult to switch back to any corporate application after using Twitter, Facebook, or Pinterest. Corporate apps are slow, dull and frankly almost always harder to use,” writes Ross in a company blog post.
Alteryx Analytics Gallery is a browser-based platform that gives users the tools “to instantly access, share, and curate collections of applications,” says Alterix. In short, users don’t have to be analytics pros to benefit from Big Data analytics.
Industry Analytics Best Practices
To get the ball rolling, Alteryx has published over 30 free best practices analytics apps to its public gallery. Covering a gamut of industries, including retail, communications, and marketing, the collection includes apps like B2B Prospect Analysis, Predictive Inventory Analysis and Twitter Tracker.
And in a nod that not every second spent is in the office is necessarily a productive one, the company included a Fantasy Football Tracker based on the 2011 regular season.
“We recognized that the consumerization of corporate IT is a reality, and so we delivered a public cloud service for analytic applications where users do not give up any of the power or sophistication that Alteryx customers already benefit from every day,” concludes Ross.
Building on the “desktop-to-cloud” updates for the Alteryx Strategic Analytic 7.0 release in February, version 8.0 includes five new time series analysis tools and updates to its scheduling engine. Alteryx is also rolling out new Salesforce connectors that provide integration of cloud data with other sources, including spreadsheets, databases, packaged content and social media, says the company.
