Jive Delivers Social Inbox with StreamOnce

Jive Software is out to banish one of the most enduring productivity killers in the business app scene: Alt-Tabbing.

The enterprise social collaboration specialist today announced Jive StreamOnce, an offering that consolidates the email, messaging and collaboration capabilities of popular business apps into Jive. In essence, it establishes a “one inbox to manage” model that’s gaining popularity among some enterprise software providers, including IBM.

After teasing its Connections 4.5 software in January, Big Blue finally made the social inbox official on March 22 with the launch of Notes and Domino Social Edition 9. The mobile-friendly software — available as an on-premise implementation or as a cloud service — turns the inbox into an activity stream that incorporates interactions from messaging, collaboration and social platforms.

Now, as part of the Jive Spring cloud release, the company is bringing similar capabilities to its own software ecosystem. The company boasts in a company release that the product “allows people to seamlessly bring together all their business applications – such as email, CRM systems, conversation streams, marketing productivity tools, document storage and data storage systems – into Jive.” Currently, Jive StreamOnce works with Gmail, Microsoft Exchange and Dropbox.

The launch arrives on the heels of Jive’s just-announced acquisition of StreamOnce, a San Jose, Calif.-based startup whose technology now forms the basis of Jive StreamOnce. Ariel Cohen, co-founder of StreamOnce, said in company remarks that the firm “was founded on the vision that everyone can collaborate better by working in one place where they can find all the relevant information from all their business systems.”

Now under the Jive umbrella, the technology stands to give agile workforces an added boost, according to StreamOnce cofounder Ilan Twig. “The combination of Jive and StreamOnce’s technologies is truly about delivering a great work experience that turbo-charges collaboration and productivity,” stated Twig.

Like IBM, Jive isn’t leaving Microsoft shops out of the loop. An Exchange module allows businesses that use Microsoft’s email server software to extend Jive’s unified inbox to their users. The software maps distribution lists into Jive automatically, allowing for the creation of inboxes that combine email with the platform’s social sharing and collaboration capabilities.

Additionally, Jive is working on more StreamOnce integrations for Oracle, NetSuite, Salesforce CRM, SAP and Sugar CRM. StreamOnce is also expected to get Web-content-savvy via the company’s Jive Anywhere social sharing technology.
