SAS Analytics Helps Organizations Search and Manage Big Data

A new business analytics software release from SAS is geared to help enterprise organizations simplify big data management and to derive insights from all their data, not just a sample.

The SAS software upgrade has features that help organizations tackle massive volumes of structured and unstructured data, including business transactions, social media, location and multimedia.

New capabilities can help enterprises, such as online travel site Expedia, use their data assets in ways that were not previously possible, said SAS.

“Expedia tracks and measures everything,” said Joe Megibow, vice president and general manager, Expedia U.S. “We rely on SAS to handle Expedia's big data. SAS predictive analytics and data mining analyze nearly 200 terabytes of customer and clickstream data in our data warehouse. Customers need a reason to do business with Expedia. Analytic insights help us deliver the value and convenience that earns customer loyalty and boosts bookings and revenue.”

With the ability to analyze larger volumes of data – meaning all available data without sampling – the new release of SAS software produces more accurate results compared to previous versions, the analytics pioneer says. Business processes such as customer credit scoring, inventory optimization and real-time risk management will benefit from increased precision, said SAS.

The new software update provides organizations with increased productivity, as new capabilities streamline analysis so users can potentially tackle additional projects. Also, the new release incorporates non-traditional data sources and formats into analyses and workflows, allowing users to collaborate and interact on analytical projects, said SAS.

The upgrade benefits several SAS product suites, including the SAS Predictive Analytics and Data Mining Suite, SAS Data Management, SAS Text Analytics and SAS Forecasting.
